The Rabbitohs have paid tribute to Alex Johnston with the unveiling of a statue honouring the 31-year-old.

After becoming the NRL’s greatest try-scorer on Friday night, the club held a ceremony at their state-of-the-art training centre in Heffron Park, Maroubra, on Monday to formally congratulate him.

During that ceremony, the club would unveil a statue depicting Johnston running with ball in hand to immortalise his achievement in cardinal and myrtle.

The statue was created by artist John Cabellon, who was commissioned by club donor Danny Taibel to produce the statue.

Reflecting on the statue, the winger admitted that this was the cherry on top of his celebrations.

“It’s been a pretty crazy last couple of days,” he said at the unveiling ceremony.

“And this is just the cherry on top.”

Johnston also joked the statue would allow for some of the local wildlife to have their say on his performances.

“Along the way, there’s been a few fans that have s—t on me, there’s been a few coaches that have s—t on me, the media s—t on me and now the pigeons can s—t on me,” he joked.

The Rabbitohs will next feature on Saturday night when they host the Wests Tigers at Gosford.
