Having not played an NRL game since 2024, should Brisbane's Blake Mozer look elsewhere for a playing opportunity?
Coming through the junior ranks at the Broncos academy, the hooker was a highly rated player with some dubbing him as the next Cameron Smith.
That progression would continue into the NRL with Mozer playing nine games for the Broncos across the 2023 and 2024 seasons off the bench.
But after battling with a shoulder injury during last season, the 21-year-old has not played for the Broncos since.
At the moment, Mozer is plying his trade with the Burleigh Bears in the Queensland Cup, having largely been used off the bench in the four games he’s played this season.
And with his contract concluding in 2027, making him available to speak with rivals from November 1, McCullough believes he should consider playing elsewhere.
“Depending on Billy (Walters) and his situation, but I’m not too sure of Blake’s contract and where he’s at,” McCullough acknowledged on SENQ Breakfast.
“But I reckon he’s every chance of looking to go somewhere else.
“If he wants to go, there’s obviously Billy. (Ben) Hunt is potentially gonna go around (for) another year.
“(Cory) Paix has got two years and what do they do with Billy.
“So, it doesn’t add up at the end (of the day) with a couple of teams coming in (to the competition).”
Corey Parker would agree, noting that the reigning premiers already have enough players capable of playing the No. 9 role.
“I think he hasn’t reached the heights they would have liked,” Parker said.
“There’s another young hooker, Cameron Bukowski, who’s coming through, who has a huge potential also.
“So, they’ve got five (hookers) at the moment, and that just doesn’t fit into two.
“So maybe he does take an option and go play for another club.”
The Broncos will next play against the Gold Coast Titans on Saturday night at Cbus Super Stadium.
SEN will have live coverage of the match with Broncos Radio available on SENQ and on the SEN app from 6:20pm AEST.
Kick-off takes place at 6:35pm.
