Geelong veteran Patrick Dangerfield has provided an update on his troublesome calf, eluding to a re-introduction to play next week.

The superstar Cat has managed just one game this season, featuring against Fremantle with just 55 per cent game. Following Geelong's bye in Round 2, Dangerfield was ruled out with a calf complaint.

It was the same calf issue that was raised during State of Origin.

Failing to get up for Geelong's classic Easter Monday clash against the Hawks, the timeline for a full return remained unclear for the 36-year-old.

Speaking prior to today's Easter Monday game, Dangerfield revealed that he and the club are eyeing off a return to football at Gather Round next week.

“Calf’s good,” Dangerfield told AFL Nation.

“It’s ready to go. The predicament next week for us is that we have a five-day turnaround with travel.

“It’ll be pretty much a normal week next week, albeit a little bit of extra training than the main group and we’ll see where we get to.

“(Origin) was where it started, but it was probably a bit of my impatience that cost me at one point. When you think very small minor injuries are nothing, you’ve got to remind yourself sometimes that you’re 36, not 26!

“A bit of self-infliction, unfortunately. That’s the challenge when you want to play, you want to compete, and sometimes you’ve got to give it an extra week and a backwards step.”

So, will Dangerfield return ahead of Round 5?

“That's the plan, but I don't always get my way!”

The Cats take on West Coast at Norwood Oval in an early Sunday bout, with Dangerfield hoping to make his return to the field.
