Can the Broncos even name a squad this week?
Amid an injury crisis at the club, Michael Maguire joined Corey Parker and Ian Healy to discuss his options after his list was obliterated in the weekend’s gritty victory over the Tigers.
Forward Payne Haas is expected to spend the next six to eight weeks on the sidelines after sustaining a Grade 3 MCL tear while Corey Jensen remains in hospital after suffering a blood clot on his lungs.
Kotoni Staggs copped a plantar fascia strain while Jesse Arthars teared his interosseous membrane in his ankle.
They join Reece Walsh on an expansive casualty list with as many as 12 players set to be missing for this Friday's match against the Bulldogs.
“We are looking at that today (going to the NRL for dispensation) but we will be right," Maguire told SENQ Breakfast. "We have plenty of players looking for an opportunity.
"What we did at the weekend was pretty special and those are the games that give you the push to chase that kind of performance.”
Asked how it had come to light that Jensen had suffered a pulmonary embolism, Maguire detailed what went on behind the scenes.
“It had a bit of a chest feeling before the game," he continued. "We thought probably nerves but after the games he felt crook. The docs checked out him out and we find out he has a clot on his lungs.
"We didn’t know about that but the pain he had felt…o play at the level he did. That’s a great knock. He will be ok and we will get him back.
"He will get on the right meds and we will have him back when the time is right."
Broncos fans will have seen plenty of vision of Reece Walsh sporting an impressive black eye after the superstar posted videos from his hospital bed a few weeks ago, but it was the images of him on a medical scooter that pushed back his return.
Having come through surgery on his broken cheekbone, the 23-year-old sustained a laceration to his foot in a backyard incident last week.
"I’m hoping Reece might be back next week," Maguire said. "Could be the week after but he is working hard in the background. He is seeing the surgeons next week and they’re happy with how he is coming along. He just poked his toenail, he’ll be right."
