The Perth Bears are less than 12 months away from entering the NRL.
And with their impending admission, Corey Parker has expressed some concerns about their squad.
Having been officially allowed to recruit players from November 1 last year, the NRL’s 18th side has slowly but surely grown its inaugural top 30 list.
So far, the Bears have officially signed 16 players to their list, with Parramatta’s Api Twidle and Wests Tigers’ Kit Laulilii all but confirmed to sign with Perth, according to News Corp.
But as Parker notes, the club has not been able to land a big fish, given they have missed out on the likes of Gold Coast captain Tino Fa'asuamaleaui and his teammate Jayden Campbell, among others.
With the club getting closer to its debut, Parker is having some worries about whether the Mal Meninga-led squad will be able to land a notable name.
Parker: “We haven't really touched on the Bears of recent time, but oh boy.”
Healy: How many players do you reckon they've signed?
Parker: I reckon 11.
Healy: I read in the paper today, 18.
Parker: Is it?
Healy: (Api) Twidle would make 18 for them.
Parker: Well, and no disrespect to Twidle, but what's a Twidle?
“They still haven't got any marquee signings yet.
“So, some concerns for Mal Meninga and the Bears, I would think.
“Well, I've got concerns (but) they're obviously pretty content at the minute, but there's still not that big fish.”
The Perth Bears will enter the NRL in 2027.
