Dolphins' front-rower Daniel Saifiti is set to announce his medical retirement from the NRL following 11 seasons in the competition.

The 30 year old spent most of his career with the Newcastle Knights having played 183 of his 191 NRL games with the Novocastrians.

The prop would make the move to the Dolphins in 2025.

But following a shoulder injury sustained in Round 8, the Fijian and NSW representative has not played a match since having been unable to recover from it despite having surgery.

In a club statement, the Dolphins CEO Terry Reader expressed his sadness for the retirement.

"There is no doubt Daniel was our best player in the first eight weeks of last year and we have really missed him since then," he said.

"It is sad for it to end this way but Daniel has had a career he can be proud of, and he will continue to add to our club off the field this year."

The club will look to receive salary cap concessions as a result of his retirement.
