With St George Illawarra yet to name their coach for next season, Greg Alexander has named the candidate he thinks will get the job.
It’s been a disastrous season for the Dragons, who sacked Shane Flanagan after going winless through the first seven rounds.
This saw then assistant coach Dean Young promoted to interim coach for the remainder of 2026.
Since taking over, the former Dragon player has broken the winless streak in Round 13 and has since added another win with a 24-10 victory over the Wests Tigers.
Having nabbed their second win of 2026, the Panthers legend believes Young will remain in charge in 2027.

“Dean Young will be the coach, I think,” Alexander told SEN’s Kick Off.
“I've got no knowledge about what's happening behind the scenes.
“I just think that they'll give Dean Young the job.”
But while Alexander is backing the incumbent, Jimmy Smith believes they could look elsewhere.
But notes that results like last Saturday will help continue to build his case to make his role permanent.
“There was talk that Ben Hornby had slightly edged Dean Young,” Smith said.
“But victories like that on Saturday absolutely help Dean Young.”
The Dragons have the bye for Round 19. They will look to make it back-to-back wins when they take on the Warriors in Auckland at Go Media Stadium.
That takes place on July 18.
