Return of Cummins and Hazlewood headlines Aussie squad

The Australian squad for the upcoming Bangladesh series has been named.

Head coach Andrew McDonald, chairman of selectors George Bailey and selector Tony Dodemaide have put together a 13-man squad for the two-Test series in Darwin and Mackay in August.

Pat Cummins will captain the side, returning from an injury-interrupted Ashes series, while fellow quick Josh Hazlewood is back after missing the summer series against England.

Hazlewood’s last Test came against the West Indies in July last year.

All-rounders Cam Green and Beau Webster have been included with Jake Weatherald set to open the batting with Travis Head again.

“The NSP (National Selection Panel) look forward to the return of Pat, Josh and Nathan. They have worked extremely hard, individually and with the SSSM teams, over the past few months to return from their respective injuries,” said Bailey.

“While this is a 13-player squad, we have players prepared and available should any adjustments be required in the lead up to these matches.

“As previously stated, the volume of cricket and schedule across the next 12 months are likely to present further opportunities across all formats for many players.”

The first Test at Marrara Stadium in Darwin starts on August 13 before the second Test at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay kicks off on August 22.
