Report: Josh Fraser officially joins the race for Blues head coaching role

Carlton interim coach Josh Fraser has alerted Blues officials of his desire to present for the senior coaching role.

The Blues’ assistant turned interim head coach has taken the season by storm, taking the reigns from Michael Voss and winning 10 from his 12 matches in charge to march Carlton into September contention.

Given his immediate influence, Fraser has fielded numerous questions surrounding his desire to apply for the senior role, standing firm on his original declaration that he was not prepared to take on the head coaching role on a full-time basis.

However, as the Blues’ winning ways continue, Fraser has been urged to reconsider, as the Blues enter the final stages of their search for the club’s next leader.

Speaking on SEN Breakfast, Carlton GM Chris Davies stated that he and the club have requested that Fraser considers himself for the role, earning endorsement from club officials and players alike.

Reports on Tuesday have revealed that the interim has changed his tune and will now involve himself in the process, joining Fremantle’s Jaymie Graham, St Kilda’s Corey Enright, Geelong’s James Kelly and Hawthorn’s Daniel Giansiracusa in the running for the job.

As reported by SEN’s Tom Morris on Saturday, it is only a matter of time before the in-demand interim publicly raises his hand.

“The expectation from people I speak to around Josh Fraser is that he will put his hand up for this job,” Morris told SEN Crunch Time.

“It’s just a matter of when he does that and when he actually pulls that trigger.

“But there is no doubt, according to people I speak to, that he will do this. It’s just a matter of whether he gets it or not.”
