Signings watch: The one club guaranteed to be interested for Best

With Bradman Best considering his playing future, Michael Carayannis has reported that one club is 'guaranteed' to be interested should he hit the open market.

The Knights have gone from wooden spooners to finalists in their first year under Justin Holbrook, and Best has been a vital player in their rise.

The centre has led the club’s try assists, managing 1.1 per game, which helped earn him selection into NSW’s Game III side, which successfully reclaimed the State of Origin shield.   But with the Blues representative coming out of contract at the end of next season, there have been reports that the club and Best were not aligned on salary.

And should the Knights, who have already committed significant money to Kalyn Ponga and Dylan Brown among others, be unable to reach an agreement, one club could strike come November 1.

“Just not sure he's happy with whatever the contract that's been put forward by the Newcastle Knights, so they haven't come to a deal yet,” Carayannis said on SEN’s Kick Off.

“Clubs now usually lock it down, so they're a finals-bound team, so I don't think anything's gonna happen before the end of the season now with Bradman Best.

“But he's probably on a deal worth around $700-$750,000 at the moment, which is still top-end money for a centre.

“Any substantial power rise would almost make him the number one paid centre, obviously with the caveat there around what Latrell Mitchell's currently on, given the fact that he was signed as a fullback.

“But that $750,000 mark (is) marquee money for a centre, but at this stage, Bradman Best’s camp haven't accepted the terms put to them by the Newcastle Knights.

“One club I can all but guarantee would be keen on Bradman, should he hit the market on November 1, is the Parramatta Eels.”

The Knights will take on the Warriors in Round 26 at Go Media Stadium this Sunday.
