Trade talk: Bulldogs match Blues’ Buku offer

The Western Bulldogs have increased their offer for Buku Khamis amid continued interest from Carlton.

The 26-year-old, who was a target for the Blues last trade period, has again appeared on the radar of the navy blue who recently offered him a five-year deal.

The Bulldogs had a four-year offer on the table but that has since been improved, according to SEN's Tom Morris.

“Carlton is of the view that Buku Khamis has been offered a five-year deal, up from four years,” he said on SEN’s Fireball.

“I understand this to be true. So this is now a five-year offer for Buku Khamis at the Western Bulldogs.

“I’d be guessing on the money, but maybe around $600,000.”

Kane Cornes does not believe the Dogs should be hamstrung by Carlton’s desire to land Khamis, saying they should not pay him overs just because a rival club are prepared to spend up.

“I think there’s a walkaway price at the Dogs as well. I don’t think just because someone else offers big cash that you match it,” he said.

“He’s not a five-year contract player. He’s a two or three-year contract that you’d guarantee.

“If he leaves and the Bulldogs don’t want to match it, no criticism to them.”

Morris also had news on several other Bulldogs and Blues players and coaches.

“I know Tim English hasn't expressed any desire to get out yet amid GWS interest, but it's still a watch how this plays out,” he added.

“Those close to Adam Treloar say he's weighing up his future. No contract offered to him yet.

“Expect Nic Newman to get a new deal with Carlton. It will be for one year.

“Zac Williams’ time at the Blues is done. So if he wants to play on, it will have to be elsewhere

“Ben Camporeale will need to wait before finding out whether he gets a new deal.

“Tim Clark is their only assistant coach who is out of contract. Josh Fraser loves him though.”
