Trade talk: Dogs won’t trade English leaving Saint to focus on one club

The Western Bulldogs have no intentions of trading Tim English.

The ruckman has reportedly been exploring a potential move to GWS after his partner, Rudy Ellis, signed with Super Netball side NSW Swifts.

However, the Dogs have made it clear that the 29-year-old, who is contracted until 2029, will not be traded.

According to Tom Morris, that stance will have a domino effect on St Kilda’s Rowan Marshall who is pondering his future.

He had the Bulldogs and Geelong on his agenda, but will now focus on getting to the Cats after missing out on a move there last trade period.

“Tim English has been the subject of serious trade chat,” Morris said on 7News.

“The Dogs tell me under no circumstances are they trading him.

“As a result, Rowan Marshall has his eyes firmly fixed on Geelong and Geelong only.”

Marshall, 30, is contracted with the Saints until the end of next year.

He is eager to be the number one ruck after Sam De Koning was recruited by the Saints late last year.

Morris spoke about the Marshall situation on SEN's Locked In last week.

“He had his exit meeting at St Kilda, and there was no discussion of a trade or any player movement – he is contracted for next year,” Morris said.

“What happened last year with Geelong is what the Marshall camp is trying to avoid again. He wanted to get to the Cats and he couldn’t get there.

“The Cats offered them a deal and the Saints said no, and in fairness to the Saints, they were saying no throughout. They didn’t even want to entertain what Andrew Mackie and Geelong had to offer.

“He stayed and played this year, and he is the glue in this changeroom, Rowan Marshall. He is a much loved and respected member of this dressing room, but he still wants opportunity.

“Clearly, when Tom De Koning comes in, there is less opportunity for him to be the number one ruck.

“He has his exit meeting and there was no discussion of a trade yet, but that’s not to say that there won’t be."
