Klein dropped as NRL acknowledges incorrect call in Warriors' loss

The fallout from the controversial end of the Knights and Warriors' semi-final has continued, with referee Ash Klein dropped for this week's preliminary finals.

The decision comes over the failure to award an escort penalty on Tyson Frizell in the dying moments of Newcastle's 12-10 win over New Zealand at Eden Park whilst Leka Halasima was attempting to catch Te Maire Martin's high bomb.

Frizell's escort was one of three controversial calls made in the last 10 minutes of the clash that went against the Warriors, resulting in the home fans committing a disgraceful act by hurling cans towards the refereeing group at the end of the match.

But out of those three calls, the NRL has conceded that the Frizell escort was the incorrect call.
