"Not good enough": Can the Wahs recover from their straight sets exit?

With the Warriors’ season coming to an end on Sunday night, Andrew Voss believes the club has become its own worst enemy on the finals stage.

For only the second time in the club’s history, New Zealand went out on straight sets following their 12-10 loss to Newcastle in their semi-final clash at Eden Park.  

This was despite managing more completions and having more possession than the Knights.

As a result, Andrew Webster’s coaching record in finals sits at 1-4, leaving doubts over whether the side can get it done at the pointy end of the season.

Reflecting on their season, which saw them finish second (their best ladder position finish since 2002), Voss believes they weren’t good enough against a side more willing to make something happen.

“They just weren't good enough against a side (that was) tenacious and kept having a crack but made a lot of mistakes, missed a lot of tackles,” Voss said on SEN’s Front Office with Vossy.

“And the Warriors didn't get the job done in one of the most hostile of cauldrons. It was 40-50,000, how many Knights fans were there?

“I couldn't hear anyone. There was no one.

“I'm going to say that the Warriors, you can say own worst enemy if you like, but just not good enough.

“I'll go that way, just not good enough.

“And can I say with my heart, I wish they were still there. I'd love to see the Wahs.

“I want them to have years of success and I think potentially they can but just not good enough on the big stage.”

The Warriors are set to lose some of their stars across the off-season, with Mitch Barnett, Luke Metcalf and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck being the most notable names.

Currently, the club is set to bring in Grant Anderson and Will Warbrick.
