Swans forward makes call on future amid Carlton interest

Out of contract forward Joel Amartey will tomorrow inform the Sydney Swans of his desire to join Carlton.

An unrestricted free agent, Amartey has been weighing up deals from both the Swans and the Blues, with the Victorian giant offering $1 million more over the duration of a five-year deal.

As reported by SEN's Tom Morris, the year-old will inform the Swans of his decision during his exit meeting tomorrow.

"The trade news is really heating up," Morris told SEN.com.au.

"We can tell you today that Joel Amartey will inform the Sydney Swans tomorrow that he intends to join Carlton as an unrestricted free agent.

"A five-year deal was on the table from the Swans - he wanted to stay all year. A five-year deal on the table from Carlton as well on significantly more money.

"He is exactly what the Blues have wanted; they have been confident for a while that they can get him, and they have got him.

"This deal will go through - there's no issue here because he is unrestricted, which means the Swans cannot match it.

"He played 70-odd games for the Swans, couldn't quite get back int he team for the Preliminary Final after being injured late in the year.

"He will move from Sydney from Carlton, he has made up his mind.

"I think the decision has been agonising for him because he loves the Sydney Swans, he loves living in Sydney, but the Blues have just presented this offer that he can't say no to, and they do have an appetite for another key forward to partner Harry McKay."

Amartey will join Carlton as the club's first acquisition under Josh Fraser, joining his former Sydney teammates in Nic Newman, George Hewett, Will Hayward and Oliver Florent.
