Is Sydney’s season a success without a GF appearance?

The Roosters are only 80 minutes away from making the Grand Final.

But should they fall short against the Dolphins on Friday night, does their season constitute an unsuccessful one?

Following an elimination final loss to Cronulla in 2025, the Roosters added plenty of star quality to their list for 2026, with Origin representatives Reece Robson and Daly Cherry-Evans, with the hopes of lifting the Provan-Summons Trophy.

Whilst they didn’t get off to the best of starts, having lost two of their first three games, the Tricolours secured a top four finish.

In the finals, they managed to bounce back from their 19-12 qualifying final loss to Penrith with a thumping 46-10 win over Cronulla to progress to the final four.

And having made the penultimate stage, SEN’s Kick Off hosts Jimmy Smith and Greg Alexander believe the season has been a success.

Alexander: “Yes, I would have to say so.”

Smith: “Is it an unsuccessful season if they don't make the grand final?”

“No, they're top four.”

Whilst Smith and Alexander believed it wouldn’t be unsuccessful, Corey Parker disagreed.

“Oh, rubbish. Are you serious?” he exclaimed.

The Broncos legend believes that given the investment they made to create a ‘white hot’ side, especially with the signing of Cherry-Evans, the Roosters need to make the big dance.

“It's white hot,” he added.

“To suggest that if DCE doesn't get to a Grand Final (and it’s still a success), the whole signing of DCE, it's why he was brought to the club, à la Cooper Cronk.”

The Roosters take on the Dolphins on Friday night at Suncorp Stadium for a spot in the Grand Final.
