Whilst he wasn’t able to play in Sunday’s Grand Final, Connor Watson has walked away from the game with a premiership ring following a heartfelt act from coach Trent Robinson.
The 30-year-old was unable to take to the field for Sydney's 19-18 win over Newcastle at Accor Stadium, having been ruled out with a concussion in their preliminary final win.
This also meant that he had played his final game for the Tricolours, with Watson moving on to play with the Dragons in 2027 after four seasons of his service in his second stint.
But after Robinson received his premiership ring, it was reported by Buzz Rothfield on Triple M that the now four-time premiership coach gave it to Watson to say thanks for his contribution to the side.
“Trent Robinson, after the game, when he was given his premiership ring, he walked straight across to Connor and gave it to him,” he said.
“And said, ‘Mate, thanks for everything you’ve done for the club. Sorry you can’t play, but this is your reward for your contribution to the Roosters’.
“It was a lovely, lovely gesture.”
This would have been the NSW representative’s first Grand Final appearance had he been able to play.
Watson will now join up with St. George Illawarra to get ready for the 2027 season.
After next season, the utility will then join the PNG Chiefs for their inaugural season in 2028.
