O’Neill: Five horses that can win Caulfield Cup

After the Caulfield Cup barrier draw, the field is finalised pending any scratchings and replenishments with emergencies.

But before the draw took place, prominent owner John O’Neill stated that he believes only five horses were capable of taking out the 150th edition of the Caulfield Cup.

“I think Ciaron (Maher) will win the race,” O’Neill said on SENTrack & RSN's Giddy Up.

“So, I think the only horses who can win the Caulfield Cup are Cosmic Crusader - and then he can’t win the Cox Plate, (and Maher’s) Zahrann, Saint George, Royal Supremacy, Kings Valley.

“They’re the only horses that can win the Caulfield Cup. She’s A Hustler can run a place. That’s it.”

A few weeks ago, O’Neill predicted that his horses - Zahrann, Saint George and Point Of Law - would complete the trifecta in this race.

Wayne Hawkes quizzed O’Neill on his trifecta prediction now that the field was finalised and only Saint George and Zahrann made it.

“Well, I’m not going to get a run with Point Of Law,” O'Neill said.

O'Neill's Zahrann is quoted at $6.50 with Sportsbet and Saint George $8 for the Sportsbet Caulfield Cup.

Cosmic Crusader is the $5.50 favourite, Royal Supremacy is at $15, Kings Valley at $31 and She's A Hustler is $21 the win and $6 the place.
