Otaki

Race 3 BM75 1200m

1 - 2 - 10 - 9

Zorero has made a terrific start to his four-year-old season with two wins on the board from just two outings. He won on debut as a three-year-old, followed it up with a narrow defeat before taking on stakes company prior to a spell. His return suggests he is a galloper who has the potential to progress to Open grade this preparation. He can be tactically versatile, sit behind the speed or settle back off a strong tempo, the wide draw doesn’t look like a concern here. Sinbin comes back in grade after an unplaced fresh up run, the first for a new stable. She comes back to a grade where she was highly competitive, her last win was over 16 months ago but her best form, at this level, is good enough.

Race 5 Open 1400m

4 - 13 - 2 - 5

Amazing Son was stakes placed last start at Hawkes Bay, during their Spring Carnival, producing the fastest closing sectionals over the 1400m trip. To the eye it looked like a black book run and the clock back it up. The inform Kelly Myers has been engaged to ride the gelding and her strike rate with the Lisa Latta stable over the last 90 days sits at 20%. Latta holds a strong hand in this with Belzoni also taking its place in the open event. He finished in front of several rivals last start at the track over 1200m, producing the quickest last 4 and 200 metres of the race. He steps out again to the preferred 1400m trip.

Tauranga

Race 2 Maiden 1400m

10 - 9 - 12 - 4

Purple Strike got back on debut, travelled wide into the straight and was still able to run home strongly into second, producing the quickest last 200m of the race (and the 2nd fastest last 200m on the entire meeting). He draws well, should be better for the experience and looks like the 1400m will suit. Off The Scales has been placed in all three race day outings, runner-up in his last two. He produced good sectionals last start and has shown enough consistency to suggest a win isn’t too far away. Avanti lines up on debut at 1400m, his trial suggesting the trip will suit, with his best work coming late. Support since markets opened indicates he can run a smart race on debut.
