The situation where Blues should look at moving on Murphy

Essendon champion Tim Watson says Carlton should look at moving on Marc Murphy, if an appropriate offer presents.

Murphy is an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season, and with the Blues languishing on the bottom of the ladder in the midst of a heavy rebuild, Watson believes moving on their current captain could make sense.

“I reckon you look,” he told SEN Breakfast.

“I think it’s up for trade. You say, ok, what’s somebody prepared to offer us for him?

“If you get a great deal, you got to look at it.”

Carlton hasn’t been shy at trading their best players, as proven in the last trade period when they sent Bryce Gibbs to Adelaide.

Former Melbourne captain Garry Lyon thinks the Blues need to stay patient, urging them to stay the course despite the 109-point loss to Melbourne on the weekend.

“These things are going to happen when you’re trying to get to where you want to go coming from the low base,” he said.

“Stay the course. There is a club they played on the weekend who inflicted that 109-point loss, who four years ago were copping the same thing.

“Stay the course, keeping taking the best kids, keep building your list.”
