McCarron confident in United’s offensive prowess

2018-08-31T12:45+10:00

Melbourne guard Mitch McCarron is confident United will be able to adjust their offensive roles once Casper Ware and Josh Boone re-join the squad, and a third import is signed.

Ware and Boone have already pledged their allegiance to Melbourne for the upcoming campaign, but the pair didn’t play in last night’s 93-85 pre-season victory over the Sydney Kings.

McCarron, who scored 15 points in the win, believes United’s offence will hum efficiently once coach Dean Vickerman gets all his tools back.

SEN’s The Sporting Capital with Jack Heverin can be heard Monday-Thursday 7pm-12am, and you can subscribe to the podcast here

“Obviously they’re super talented guys as well,” McCarron told SEN’s The Sporting Capital.

“We will all find our roles and positions, obviously Casper is going to come in and be an immediate threat. We know what Booney does as well.

“We will all figure it out once those guys are here, but for now, we work with what we’ve got.”

Recruit Alex Pledger top-scored for Melbourne with 18 points, while star Chris Goulding amassed 13 second-half points.

Along with Ware and Boone’s pending on-court return, United still has a third import spot to fill.

McCarron, who joined the club from Cairns over the offseason, praised Melbourne’s culture, explaining how the defending champions are implementing high standards heading into the new season.

“It’s early, so I’m still learning a little bit but at the same time, I’d probably say just the level of expectation,” he said.

“There is a standard. Professionalism, guys are on time, otherwise there’s a consequence.

“Every time we hit the practice floor, are you getting better?

“Before practice, after practice, are you doing extra work? Are you coming in on time and just leaving right away?

“It’s just about making the right decisions to help everyone else get better.”

United battle the Kings in another warm-up affair on Saturday night at the State Basketball Centre. Tip-off is 7:00pm AEST.
