The 2025 NRL season begins in under a month with the double header season opener at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Ahead of the season getting underway, The Daily Telegraph’s Michael Carayannis has looked into his crystal ball and forecast the big headline for every team in 2025.

Brisbane Broncos

“Despite 2025 being a successful season, Michael Maguire will be cleaning the house,” Carayannis said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“There will be a change at the Broncos with one or two high profile players set to go out the door.

“It all depends on how well they go but there will be a few contracted players that won’t be there in 2026.”

St George Illawarra Dragons

“Despite not making the finals in 2025, coach Shane Flanagan will get a contract extension.

“He’s got one-year left on his deal after initially signing a three-year contract.

“He’s at the midway point and I think the Dragons will see enough in him to give him an extra 12-24 months on his deal before the end of the season.”

The Dolphins

“The Wayne Bennett curse will strike again.

“Following the great Wayne Bennett is always a tough ask and I think the Dolphins will slide down the ladder and won’t play finals.

“They will continue the theme of post-Bennett teams.

“(My concerns) are around the halves. Isaiya Katoa is a good young player but he still has to carry the load for 20-odd games.

“I don’t have them coming last because I love their forward pack. My question mark is about their halves.

Canberra Raiders

“Josh Papali’i will head to the Super League and retire as a Raiders great.

“I’ve got them coming last. I don’t like saying it because I don’t have much confidence.

“You have to be matter of fact and you have to pick someone.”
