With the Broncos struggling to find form, Peter Badel has spoken about the growing speculation surrounding Michael Maguire's future with the club.

Despite winning the premiership only eight months ago, there’s been plenty of pressure around Maguire’s future at Red Hill following a dismal title defence.

After a 5-3 start to the season, the Broncos have not won a game in the last two months, having conceded over 30 points on average while being unable to score above 30 in any of those matches.

This has seen them slip from within the top eight to 13th as they risk becoming the first reigning premier since the 2006 Wests Tigers to miss finals the following year.

But despite their form slump, the News Corp journalist believes Maguire deserves to be the coach when Round 1 comes in 2027.

“I think it's a bit premature to talk about his future because they did win the comp last year,” Badel told SENQ Breakfast.

“If they do miss the finals, it'll be the worst ever result by a defending premiership team in history, so that is pretty significant.

"But given the fact he won a comp last year, there's talk about him being sacked this year, which I think is nonsense.

“I think he deserves to start next season, and look, he's off contract next year.

“If he starts the year poorly next year, the drums will certainly be beating, but until then, I think Madge deserves a chance to right the ship next season.”

Having lost their last seven games, the Broncos will look to avoid making it eight straight when they host the Sharks at Suncorp Stadium this Saturday.

SEN will have live coverage of the match from 7:20pm AEST on Broncos Radio.

That can be heard on SENQ, SEN Track Brisbane and on the SEN app with kick-off at 7:30pm.
