Private Eye set for another strong spring campaign

Joe Pride’s star “old boy” looks to go back-to-back in the P.B Lawrence Stakes this Saturday.

He is looking to make it 3/3 at track and distance at Caulfield over 1400m.

Private Eye has drawn barrier 12 providing a notable challenge for the elite racehorse.

On SENTrack & RSN's Giddy Up, Pride spoke through the wide draw, emphasising that the wide barrier isn’t necessarily game over for the nine-year-old.

“Outside gates aren’t too bad a thing for this horse, he’s drawn a lot of them in his life, actually he’s run some of his best races from there.” Pride said.

“Nash (Rawiller) likes that he can just take his time and come across.

“We come to the races pretty confident he will run well.

“Cosmic Crusader looks a pretty smart horse, but he’s probably got to come up to Private Eye’s level,” Pride added.

Private Eye has been a warrior for Pride’s stable, the epitome of consistency.

“Longevity’s been one of his greatest qualities and I haven’t seen anything from him in the last month or two that would suggest to me that he is finished.” He said.

“He is in great shape, mentally and physically and I don’t see why he won’t run really well again.”

Private Eye is paying $4.50 with Sportsbet for this weekend’s P.B Lawrence Stakes.

Joe Pride also has Attica returning to the races Saturday at Rosehill, and he has big hopes for the talented four-year-old.

“The bar was set very high for him as a cult because he needed to stand up and win Group 1s. He won one, he won a Spring Champion but came back in the autumn and wasn’t quite the same horse.” Pride said.

“He’s obviously gelded now, and I think that is going to be the making of this horse.

“He resumes in a very winnable race, and I love his trials.”

Attica will run in Race 9 at Rosehill at $3.80 with Sportsbet and looks a great chance.
