Kalyn Ponga will undergo surgery today in a bid to return for the Kiwis during this year's Rugby League World Cup after confirmation of his broken left arm.
During New Zealand's 22-24 loss to Australia in the opening match of the Rugby League World Cup, the Queensland representative came off the field in the final 10 minutes.
After the game, the Newcastle fullback was seen in a sling with a suspected broken arm.
On Friday, the NZRL confirmed the injury had taken place earlier on in the second half.
"We wish Kalyn all the best with his surgery," New Zealand's team doctor Greg Macleod said in a statement.
"We'll see how that goes, but for now he will remain in camp."
This was Ponga's first game in New Zealand colours after switching allegiances from Australia to the Kiwis at the start of the year.
New Zealand will next feature on October 25th against the Cook Islands at One NZ Stadium in Christchurch.
