Moses Mbye has criticised the standard of teams in the Rugby League World Cup following Samoa’s demolition job against France.
In their first match of the tournament, France were heavily defeated by Samoa at CommBank Stadium, losing 78-4, which makes it nearly impossible for them to progress out of the group stage.
After the game, the former Bulldog, Tiger and Dragon believed this demonstrated the gulf between some of the 10 nations within the tournament.
“I don't know what to take out of this game,” Mbye said on SENQ Breakfast.
“78 to 4, they didn't have a bad line-up in terms of a French team.
“But these nations like, let's be serious, they can't compete at this level.
“And the Samoan side, it's a fair side.”
But as Mbye notes, the result is hardly a surprise given the difference between the two sides.
“It's not their sport; a lot of these guys they're part-time athletes,” he continued.
“They're a few Super League players, there's a fair chunk of Super League players who are representing France, but when they come up against these teams, outfits like the Samoan side, they had no chance.”
France will take on their Northern Hemisphere rivals in England at HBF Park from 5:35pm AEDT.
Toa Samoa’s campaign also continues on Saturday as they travel to Port Moresby to face PNG.
SEN League will have live commentary of the match from 3pm AEDT on our radio network and on the SEN app as part of its coverage of the Rugby League World Cup. Kick-off takes place 3:25pm.
