St Kilda’s inability to attract players a concern: Dal Santo

2018-09-03T13:25+10:00

St Kilda champion Nick Dal Santo is concerned about his former club’s inability to attract players to RSEA Park.

The Saints have been public in their pursuits of Sydney’s Dan Hannebery, Geelong’s Dan Menzel and West Coast’s Scott Lycett, with the latter reportedly set to shun St Kilda’s lucrative offer and join Port Adelaide..

Dal Santo says publicly courting players and then failing to land them isn’t a good look for the club.

“You know what I’m flat about?” Dal Santo told SEN Afternoons.

“That the Saints are going public with people and they still don’t want to go there.

“It concerns me about why players don’t want to go to St Kilda and other clubs.

"Whether it’s factual or whether it’s perception, it concerns me that is where it’s at.

“It’s a big off-season coming up for a number of clubs, including the Saints.”

St Kilda are in the midst of a substantial overhaul of its football department and playing list, with Brett Ratten and Brendon Lade joining the club as assistants coaches to support embattled coach Alan Richardson in 2019.

Meanwhile Nathan Freeman and Hugh Goddard were both delisted last week in moves that surprised fans.

Former president Peter Summers also stepped down from his position, replaced by board member Andrew Bassat.
